Good morning. Read online · Four-minute read.
3.1%The IMF's new 2027 global growth forecast, down from 3.3% in July. Markets barely moved: slower growth was already priced into the rate path. Watch whether this week's bank earnings agree.
1. BP: what the buyback pace is telling you
BP reaffirmed its quarterly buyback despite softer crude. The signal is not the dollar figure, it is that management is choosing capital return over debt reduction at these prices. That works until it doesn't; the breakeven oil price for the current pace is the number to hold in your head.
2. Lloyds and the IMF's UK call
A gentler Bank of England path is good for mortgage demand and bad for net interest margin. For a lender with Lloyds' mix, the second effect tends to show up first. The honest read: 2027 guidance matters more than this quarter's print.
3. Micron's drop is a memory-cycle story
Headlines blamed AI capex fatigue. The filings point elsewhere: inventory days and contract pricing. Memory has always been cyclical; the question is where in the cycle we are, not whether demand exists.

4. Bitcoin: institutional selling, not a rush for the exits
ETF outflows for the week were real but concentrated in two funds, which reads more like rebalancing than a change of view. We do not know the buyers on the other side; nobody does. Treat confident explanations with suspicion.
5. On the calendar
Tue: JPMorgan, Wells Fargo, Citi report. Wed: September CPI. Thu: retail sales; Economy Weekly lands at noon. Fri: options expiry.
